Do You Actually Need This?
This is the most expensive part of rodent work and the part most likely to be sold when it is not required, so here is the honest version.
Sometimes the answer is no. Light droppings across a small area of otherwise intact insulation can usually be spot cleaned and treated, which is a materially cheaper job. Some national operators argue that costly re insulation is pushed far more often than it is needed, and on that specific point they have a fair argument.
Replacement is genuinely warranted when there is widespread urine saturation, which is the real trigger because urine is what destroys R value and what you cannot spot clean out of blown in material. Also when insulation has been flattened into nesting beds across a significant area, when contamination has reached the return air path, when odour persists after cleaning because the material is holding it, or when the existing insulation was already below current standards and the attic is open anyway.
If somebody quotes you insulation replacement on the first visit, before a single trap has been set, ask them why. There is no way to know on day one how far contamination extends or whether the population is out.

Why This Matters More Here Than Up North
- Nine months, not three. Compressed and contaminated insulation loses R value, and in Florida that shows up as a cooling load penalty across most of the year rather than a heating penalty across a short winter.
- Your attic is the hottest part of the building. Florida attic temperatures make insulation performance the difference between an air conditioner that cycles and one that runs.
- Humidity. Saturated material in a humid attic does not dry out and recover the way it might in a dry climate.
- Blown in material cannot be spot cleaned. Unlike batts, you cannot lift out the affected section and leave the rest.
- Correct depth matters. Replacement should be blown to the right depth for your Florida climate zone, not simply topped up to look full.
The hidden benefit nobody advertises: pulling insulation is the only time anyone gets an unobstructed view of the underside of your roof deck and the top plates of your walls. Entry points, water intrusion and wiring damage turn up that were invisible with the material in place. Ask for photographs while the deck is exposed, because you will not get that view again.

Re insulating before the animals are confirmed gone means paying twice. Verification comes first, then removal, then cleaning and sanitising, then new material. Any order other than that is either a misunderstanding or a sales structure.

- Vacuum removal. Contaminated material extracted with a purpose built insulation vacuum, bagged and disposed of.
- Deck and top plate inspection. Surveyed and photographed while exposed.
- Cleaning and sanitising. HEPA vacuum, enzymatic cleaner, antimicrobial treatment and deodorising.
- Any newly found entry points sealed. While the attic is open and access is easy.
- New insulation blown to correct depth for the Florida climate zone.

Because it is the largest line, it is the one to get itemised separately rather than bundled. A quote that gives you one number for removal, exclusion and restoration together makes it impossible to see what you are actually being charged for the insulation.

Do you use poison?
Not as a default. A poisoned rat does not go outside to die, it dies inside your wall, which turns a rodent job into an odour job. And rodenticide creates secondary poisoning risk for Florida owls, hawks and other raptors, as well as for pets. The approach is mechanical: trapping plus permanent exclusion.
